Hiking in Dahn and the Palatinate
A hiking vacation in the UNESCO Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reservation
Breath-taking rock formations, dark forests and tranquil valley landscapes, imposing castle ruins and exciting legends. The Palatinate Forest Natural Park – a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1992 – promises authentic hiking experiences.
1,000 km of marked hiking trails can be directly accessed from our Hotel Pfalzblick in the Dahn Rockland – including the Rockland Legend Trail (Felsenland Legen Trail), which was selected as Germany's most beautiful hiking path in 2013, as well as 12 premium hiking paths.
Dahn Circular Hiking Trail
With a total length of approx. 18 km, this trail is divided into an eastern and a western section. Along with resting opportunities, like the Tavern at the Altdahn Castle and the Palatinate Forest Clubhouse in Schneiderfeld, there are many sights to see and beautiful views along the circular trail.
Enjoy the magnificent view from the Soldiers' cabin at the Hochstein rock formation at the Wieslaut Valley or visit the group of castles of Dahn with the castle museum. At the Römerfelsen you can enjoy the incredible view of the Palatinate Forest. The Neudahn castle ruins are a special highlight, especially for children.
From the Wachtfelsen at the "Bride and Groom" you can view all the stations of the Dahn Circular Trail from a distance.
There is access to the circular trail directly behind the hotel.
Rockland Legend Trail (Felsenland Sagenweg)
Myths, legends and stories from the Rockland come to life in the real settings along this almost 90 km long hiking trail. Discover the Rockland Legend Trail in 5 legs or on one of 7 circular trails – e.g. during a wonderful hiking week in the Hotel Pfalzblick in Dahn.
Along the way, there are many opportunities for snacks and refreshments along the way and so much to marvel at including spectacular rock formations, 11 castles and numerous other attractions. Let yourself be enchanted by the legend of the Jungfernsprung rock formation in Dahn, go on an "elwetritsch" hunt or meet the snake (as thick as a tree) at the "Drachenfels", the dragon's rock. You can wonder at even more traditional lore at the Berwartstein Castle, the Fladenstein (a sandstone ridge), the Fleckenstein castle or the Maimont mountain.

Dahn Rock Trail (Felsenpfad)
All around the health resort Dahn you will run into formidable rock formations while hiking. The Premium hiking trail Dahn Felsenpfad includes 14 highlights on 12 km.
This circular trail leads you past various forms of the typical Wasgau red sandstone. Gaze at the mighty rocks and bizarre formations, but also at the smaller rock forms along the way. Over the mountain ridge and across the valleys, through the alpine forests and past pristine clearings, the Dahn Rockland stretches out and opens up breathtaking views of the city of Dahn.
Climbing experience is not necessary, but hikers should be somewhat surefooted and have a good level of condition.
Along the way, you will find refreshment at the Rothsteig spring, which provides you with clear spring water, the Dahn Kneipp wading facility and at the Dahner Hütte, the cabin of the Palatinate Forest Club.
The Dahn Rock Trail can be accessed directly from the hotel.
"Elwetritsch" Educational Trail & Circular Hiking Trail
In the footsteps of the elwetritsche, the bird-like legend from the Palatinate region ... this is a slightly different hiking trail which stretches over approx. 10 kilometers and leads past 7 information boards about the elwetritsche.
When you hike on this trail you will learn more about the "tritsche" nesting areas in the rocks or the ritual places for tree and ground courtships. See the elwetrisch nest and the gathering spot at the "Römerfels". Visit the lane of approach and the "curiosity" rock. Find out more about the fossil egg depository place and the form healing and bathing place of the elwetritsches. As you can see, the legends are still alive here!
The start is at the elwetritsch memorial at the House of Guests in Dahn which you can reach conveniently on foot from our hotel!

Planet Trail (Planetenweg)
Our solar system is replicated on the Planet Trail with a scale of 1:700 million. Information boards along the way tell you about the bronze or sandstone models of the planets and make the dimensions of our solar system comprehensible. .
The 12 kilometer long planet trail begins in Hinterweidenthal at the model of the sun and ends in Bruchweiler-Bärenbach with the model of Pluto. The Planet Trail can be toured on foot or by bicycle.
The conception and construction of the trail was carried out by the Planetenweg-AG at the Otfried-von-Weißenburg Gymnasium in Dahn.

Wasgau Lake Tour (Seentour)
Fascinating springs, streams and ponds ... the Premium hiking trail "Wasgau Lake Tour" stretches out around Fischbach and Ludwigswinkel over 21 kilometers which can be divided into two legs. The circular trail begins at the Biosphere House with the tree-top path in Fischbach.
It leads through valley meadows along the "White Madonna of Fischbach", directly along the stream to the Pfälzerwoog. At the Lindelskopf you will get a once-in-a-lifetime view before the trail leads on to the Rösselsquelle spring. Marvel at the Rösselsweiher pond and the swimming lake Sägmühlweiher before the trail continues on to the Kurtalaue meadow in Ludwigswinkel.
Reach the sculpture path via the barefoot path and continue on to the popular Saarbacherhammer swimming pond. Dozens of fishing ponds are located along this trail. With a little bit of luck you can watch the gray herons hunting their prey.
There are numerous opportunities for refreshments along this trail.
Forest Adventure Trail Schindhard
10 Information stations provide you with diverse and interesting glimpses into the forest's ecosystem. The 10 km long trail can be divided into two sections of 5 km each.
The Forest Adventure trail runs past the view point on the peak of the Kahlenberg Hill along the south side of the Kahlenberg, via the Rauhberg and all the way to the eastern edge of Schindhard. Continue on across the Hexenplätzl and Kelterhaus on the outskirts of Busenberg up to the Vogellehrpfad, the bird path, and to the viewing rock on the west side of the Eichelberg mountain. After you have gone around the corner rock, continue on to the Eilöchelfels rock, past the meadow orchards and back to Schindhard.
The Forest Adventure Trail is a project of the town of Schindhard, which is close to Dahn and can be reached from the Hotel Pfalzblick in just a few minutes by car.
Barefoot Trail Ludwigswinkel
An adventure for big and little feet ... The barefoot path in the Ludwigswinkel flood plain. Experience nature as a podiatrist at 10 stations – what a blessing for body and soul.
For example, you can feel the forest floor and tree bark at station 1, balance on various round, flat or square beams at station 2 to test your sense of equilibrium and train your coordination. Station 3 ensures fresh impulses for your foot reflex zones when you walk over a corduroy road. At station 4 you can walk over sand, stone chippings and gravel and at station 5 you can wade through swampy soil, which is not only healthy, but also lots of fun.
Walk across concrete paving at station 6 and relax in the comfortable warmth of the Brunnenweg, the spring trail. Refresh your feet at station 7 with a walk through the sand in the cool streambed and experience the prickling massage for the soles of your feet while walking over station 8, a mowed meadow. Station 9 offers a streambed with natural stone and at station 10 you can awaken your spirits by wading through the cool stream water.
